We are very lucky and proud to have received a donation of a defibrillator and bleed kit to install at Wave. Please see the below comment from local MP Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst who donated the defibrillators to us. It’s a wonderful addition to the local community.
“I’m incredibly proud to share that my first annual fundraiser secured two defibs, and several bleed kits this summer, which helped provide lifesaving equipment across Solihull West & Shirley.
We raised the money by completing the 20 mile Solihull Way walk, and thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported us, we’ve already funded a defibrillator cabinet and several bleed kits for our community.
It was a real honour to recently unveil the new defibrillator and bleed kit at Wave Café in Earlswood Craft Centre, where Laura and Charles have proudly installed it outside their café. This equipment is truly lifesaving, and it’s especially meaningful following the tragic loss of Paul, a much loved local who sadly passed away from a heart attack.
Access to defibrillators and bleed kits can make the difference between life and death in an emergency. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, especially those who donated them. “
We sadly lost Paul from a neighbouring business Kingfisher Aviation last year following a tragic cardiac arrest. We hadn’t know him long but loved seeing him almost daily (Table 10 was always reserved for him!) when he came over for lunch. He was a lovely man, often helping us out, fixing things and he even helped us by putting together the planters you see outside the café when we realised how many hundreds of screws they came with! We enjoyed listening to his stories about the craft centre, the intricate model planes he was building and his days as a world champion model car racer.
We hope the presence of these will prevent another loss occurring.

What a fantastic update! A defibrillator and bleed kits sound like essential café equipment now, slightly more important than the perfect croissant, I suppose. Pity about Paul, but at least Kingfisher Aviation got a final, slightly chaotic, lunch reservation! And Charles and Laura are clearly the unsung heroes, turning the craft centre into a café and now a potential life-saver – they should put Local Hero on their business cards alongside Caterers with Experience. Cant wait for my next lunch, now with an added safety net and potentially great gossip about Pauls model planes!
